Japan wants to build a structure on the moon that will create artificial gravity equal to Earth’s

Researchers and engineers from the University of Kyoto, Japan, and the Kajima Corporation presented a project aimed at creating a building capable of creating gravity and supporting human life on the Moon. The Glass Project will use centrifugal force to create gravity inside.

The aim of the project is to build a habitable environment that will not create problems for human health over time, as is usually the case with astronauts who spend a lot of time in places with low gravity. Another interesting point is that Glass predicts that the structures will be on the wall of a cylindrical building.. That is, you will be walking on the walls of the place without even realizing it.

The plan for researchers at the Kajima Corporation and Kyoto University is to build a rotating structure, using the centrifugal force of the cones to generate the necessary gravitational force. There are three cones with a radius of 100 meters and a height of 400 meters, capable of making one revolution every 20 seconds.

Life in the center of the cylinder

Inside The Glass, researchers are designing a biome with humans, animals, and plants. To transport materials and people, scientists have proposed a space train that will run on rails outside the glass dome. In the screenshots below, you can see how the design intent is to creating a biome that “sticks” to the cylinder walls and remains so, only with the force of gravity.

The idea seems to come straight from a sci-fi book, and while interesting, it seems impossible to put into practice. Both for reasons of monetary investments, and technological ones necessary for its operation. However, researchers from the Kajima Corporation estimate the construction of The Glass before the end of the first half of the 21st century, that is, until 2051. The forecast seems too optimistic.
