The Nothing Phone It’s one of those devices that promises to bring something revolutionary to an industry that has struggled to establish new paradigms after the failure of foldable smartphones. This device, about which we have just learned quite a few details, will try to offer something different not in terms of performance, but through the user experience and a special and distinctive design.

Carl Pei, the person behind the “invention”, called the smartphone the Nothing Phone 1. Although it has not yet been officially unveiled, we already know some important details about it both internally and externally, because yes, one of the most striking aspects of this device is its external appearance.

The back of the Nothing Phone 1 is initially transparent thanks to the addition of glass. However, if we say first, it is because there is a white or black plate inside that prevents us from seeing the internal components. They are on this plate configurable LED lights from the operating system, which give the smartphone a somewhat futuristic look, but apart from the aesthetic treatment they give it, it is not technologically revolutionary.

Much of the smartphone’s features have been filtered out by Kuba Wojciechowski, a developer involved in the Nothing Phone 1 firmware. At the feature level, we are dealing with a smartphone that is more mid-range than high-end due to its inclusion. for Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+screen 6.55-inch AMOLED with a frequency of 120 Hz and a native FHD+ resolution (2,400 x 1,080 pixels), 16-megapixel selfie camera plus configuration dual camera on the back with two sensors, one main and one corner, each with a resolution of 50 megapixels.

Another characteristic of the Nothing Phone 1 is the operating system: Nothing OS. This software will try to offer a a minimalistic experience adapted to the characteristics of a smartphone, but don’t be under any illusions because it’s based on the Android Open Source Project, or whatever for people without deep computer knowledge: it’s based on Android 12 and will use its own launcher, which can be obtained for free from the Play Store. According to the information published by Wojciechowski, some applications that could be present in the system would not be his own, but rather from third parties.

At the memory level, it will have three variants: the first s 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, the second with 8GB RAM 256GB internal storage and the last of the multiple categories with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Data storage cannot be expanded using microSD.

The Nothing Phone 1 counts as Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6 connectivity accompanied by Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, USB 2.0 Type-C and a fingerprint reader. The lithium-polymer battery has a capacity of 4,500mAh and supports 33W fast charging and 5W wireless charging. Its thickness is 7.6 millimeters, weight is about 199 grams and it will be available in black and white. The approximate base price is estimated at approx 470 euros.

As we already said, Nothing Phone 1 is behind the aforementioned Carl Pei, a person who in the past had a relevant role in OnePlus, a well-known smartphone brand of Chinese origin. The smartphone is apparently manufactured by China’s BYD Electronic and should start shipping this summer, possibly from July 22, 2022. We leave you with a video of the official event.
