Microsoft introduces Windows Autopatch service

Microsoft has announced the global availability of the Windows AutoCorrect service, designed to automate Windows and Office security updates on registered edge devices. The Autopatch service was announced in April this year. During the presentation, Microsoft said that its main task is to free IT administrators from the hassle of monthly updates by delegating management of their deployments to the company.

The service is available to customers with Windows Enterprise E3 and E5 licenses. However, it is not available to Windows Education (A3) or Windows Front Line Worker (F3) subscribers. Additionally, Microsoft has no plans to provide Windows Autopatch to government subscribers. The service will reportedly automatically update Windows 10 and Windows 11 features, as well as drivers, firmware, and Microsoft 365 enterprise apps like Teams, Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Microsoft will continue to release updates on the second Tuesday of each month, and Autopatch will help simplify the process of deploying software updates. Autopatch first applies security updates to devices in the so-called test ring with a minimum number of representative devices. After the validation period, updates are sent to the first (1% of devices), fast (9%) and broad (90%) circles.

“Microsoft engineers use Windows Update for Business client policies and deployment service tools on your behalf. The service creates test rings and monitors deployments, stopping and even reverting changes when possible.”– Microsoft’s senior marketing executive for Microsoft Managed Desktop and Windows AutoCorrect products, reported on his blog.
