Google Maps is one of the most popular tools out there. We use it to explore the institutions around us, but mainly to take us to a place where we don’t know how to get there.
Now it is likely that your mobile has enabled location history so you can check where you were that day, how you move from one place to another and even how long you stay in each place.
It can be scary if you don’t know you have it enabled, but everything will depend on the importance you place on this type of information. remember no one but you and Google can access it, so it is not open to the public. Of course, it can be used to avoid fines, as in the UK.
Jamie Chalmers is a 21 year old fined £100 for allegedly parking his car in a car park for three hours. The strange thing was that the young man had not moved the car for days, so he was surprised when he received the letter from Premier Park Ltd, the British company responsible for parking control in England.
He unlocked his phone, went to Google Maps’ location history, and realized he hadn’t been in the parking lot for 3 hours.. All he did was enter the parking lot to go self-service and after a while he left.
Finally, When Chalmers submitted the information and the company confirmed it, the company had to withdraw the fine.. Since then, the young man advises users to activate this option. You lose in privacy, but that might save you some intimidation.
“I was shocked when I got the ticket. I thought, ‘I haven’t parked anywhere for three hours.’ The picture they sent showed me turning to the main road… Another picture of me giving way at an intersection. They said I was in the parking lot for more than three hours. That wasn’t true: I didn’t use the parking lot. “I was just in the drive-through. I used my Google location history to answer the accusation. As you can see, at what times and places and how long have you been driving. I objected, showed them the evidence and they had no choice but to withdraw it.”
What happened is that they started blaming him for parking. when he left there already during his release period and this resulted in a fine. But when he left, his detection systems didn’t get caught correctly, and he avoided paying the penalty thanks to Google’s past tests.
