Nikon, a large Japanese manufacturer of camera equipment, announced the end of further development of single-lens reflex models (SLR).
As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by NHK.
The company explained this decision with the popularity of both smartphones and mirrorless cameras.
It is stated that Nikon started to sell cameras based on this technology in 1959. They were popular due to the possibility of obtaining high-quality pictures. Together with its rival Canon, Nikon has managed to get a large share of the global SLR market.
The combination of a number of pressing factors forced Nikon to cease development after 60 years. However, the company says it will continue to manufacture and sell existing SLR models.
For now, Nikon says it plans to focus on the promising aspect of interchangeable-lens mirrorless cameras.
As reported by Ukrinform, Japanese company Sony introduced its new Alpha 1 mirrorless camera with 8K video support.
