Lockheed Martin is modernizing the US Army’s existing rocket-propelled artillery systems for long-range guided rocket launchers (GMLRS-ER).

The Pentagon’s #1 weapons supplier, Lockheed Martin Corporation, has signed an agreement with the Army to modernize its rocket launch system (RSV). The modification included work on the modernization of the M270 army MLRS to the M270A2 configuration.

The RSZV is a highly mobile automated system that launches surface-to-surface missiles from the M270 family of launchers. The MLRS Ordnance Family (MLRS MFOM) can be launched in less than a minute by a crew of three.

The M270A2 is an upgraded version of the M270 tracked launcher with a common fire control system (CFCS); A new 600 hp engine, upgraded transmission and starter-charge modules, and improved armored cabins (IAC).

The modernization of the A2 configuration will allow firing 227 mm rocket-propelled multiple rocket launchers (GMLRS-ER) with increased range.
