This is stated in the department’s press release, Ukrinform reports.
“It’s dust season and winter on Mars, so there’s more dust in the air and less sunlight to charge Ingenuity’s batteries. Dust levels are expected to decrease later in July, so the team decided to take a break from the helicopter’s batteries for a few weeks and return them to daily charge levels,” NASA said.
Weather permitting, Ingenuity is expected to resume flights in early August.
As Ukrinform reports, the Ingenuity helicopter was delivered to the Red Planet along with NASA’s Perseverance rover on February 18, 2021, after nearly 7 months of flight. Ingenuity made its maiden flight on April 19, 2021. The $85 million helicopter became the first plane to be launched from another planet.
In mid-June, it became known that NASA carried out the 29th launch of the Ingenuity helicopter on Mars as part of a research mission.
