This week, Apple added the original Siri Remote and Apple TV HD to its list of vintage products. According to internal records received MacRumorsThe device became obsolete on June 30, but the general list of devices has been updated recently.
When the Apple TV HD was first released in 2015, it came with the first generation Siri Remote without the white ring around the Menu button; devices that only come with this remote without the ring are now considered obsolete. Apple added a white ring to the Menu button in 2017 to make the button more visible when you pick up the remote.
Apple TV HD devices that come with a white-ringed Siri Remote (still considered a first-generation Siri Remote) or a second-generation Siri Remote (silver with a round trackpad) are not classified as legacy models.
A device is classified as vintage after five years have passed since the last Apple device went on sale. Vintage items generally cannot be repaired at Apple Stores or Apple Authorized Service Providers unless parts are already available. Apple continues to sell the Apple TV HD (originally known as the fourth-generation Apple TV) for $149. The device hasn’t received any hardware updates aside from changes to Siri Remote since its launch nearly seven years ago. Source
