Hyundai Rotem company showcased a new tank concept presented as the “Next Generation Main Battle Tank”. The tank uses new mobility, firepower and protection technologies.
The layout of the new generation tank is traditional for modern MBTs, with the driver’s seat in the front in the middle of the hull and the turret located at the rear of the hull. The crew consists of three people: the driver, the commander and the gunner.
At the heart of the tank is a capsule-type combat compartment, which allows the tank to be used in harsh conditions with maximum ballistic and anti-mine protection. The tank body offers a high level of protection using passive and active armor.
The tank will also be equipped with a system for detecting explosive devices, as well as an active defense system to repel attacks from 360-degree guided missiles and rocket-propelled grenades around the vehicle.
Both sides of the tower will be equipped with smoke grenade launchers. MBT will be designed to install 130 mm smoothbore guns. The tank will have the ability to remain hidden thanks to the integration of additional weapons into the turret.
The Korean tank will have a combat mass of 55 tons and will be equipped with a diesel engine, which will allow the tank to develop a maximum highway speed of 70 km/h and off-road 50 km/h. The suspension will use rubber track technology.
MBT’s standard equipment will include the latest generation of communication and surveillance tools to conduct combat operations day and night and in all weather conditions. It will also be equipped with C5ISR (command, control, computers, communications, cyber, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) systems.
