Council expands powers of State Special Communications Service to counter attacks in cyberspace

The Verkhovna Rada took as a basis the draft law defining the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection at the legislative level as a body responsible for the formulation and implementation of state policy in the field of active measures against aggression in cyberspace.

According to Ukrinform, 275 deputies voted for the relevant document.

The draft law introduces amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On the State Service of Private Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine”, which proposes to expand the agency’s powers to formulate and implement state policy in the field of active countermeasures against aggression in cyberspace. as well as providing the task of ensuring the functioning of the relevant system.

As highlighted in the explanatory note, the urgency of such a legislative action stems from the advantages of the modern digital world that come with the development of information technologies, as well as the new threats to national security. especially in the conditions of large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

According to the deputies, the legal appointment of the State Special Communications Service as a body responsible for the formulation and implementation of state policy in the field of active countermeasures against aggression in cyberspace is due to the fact that this agency has sufficient personnel and technical potential. to fulfill their duties.

As reported, since the beginning of the large-scale war against Ukraine, Russia has carried out 796 cyberattacks against our country, which is three times more than in the same period last year.
