Revelation of the first images taken James Webb Space Telescope impressed the world. However, these images have been selected NASA test and evaluate tools JWST, without being part of a specific study conducted, for example, by the agency itself or by the university. But Gabriel Brammer, astronomer at the University of Copenhagenrevealed the first telescope not produced NASA.

Galaxy NGC 628 photographed by James Webb
Gabriel Brammer has visited the site Mikulsky archive for space telescopesopen to the public project in which data from telescopes funded NASAto visualize the “raw” data of observations already made James Webb. He decided to process the spiral galaxy data NGC 628 because it is one of the most similar to the Milky Way galaxy in which we “live”.
In the image below we see NGC 628 in the spectrum mid infraredwhich is captured in James Webb Space Telescope through a mid-infrared instrument (MIRI). Purple is an assigned color and is not real. This is because since we can’t see in infrared, we need to use some sort of tone to enhance the image. Despite the psychedelic spirals NGC 628, the image shows the structure of its spirals in never-before-seen detail. The galaxy has already been photographed Hubble previously.

James Webb: years from production to release
project James Webb telescope was developed National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in collaboration with European and Canadian space agencies. It was originally supposed to be launched in 2007. But some problems delayed the launch of the model, one of them was the high cost of production of the James Webb telescope, which was increasing more and more and back in 2005 made Engineers rethink the original design.

James Webb x Hubble: Compare images taken…
NASA has already released the first five color images of the JWST.
In 2016, the telescope was declared ready, but its project was again put on hold due to construction difficulties and remained so until 2019, when it was finally assembled. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been more delays until NASA finally scheduled for release on December 18, 2021.
With it, researchers will be able to observe even more things from space, being able to see some of the oldest galaxies in the universe and other celestial bodies such as black holes. Its operation began on July 12, 2022.
