The use of consumer drones in military missions in Ukraine has begun to blur the lines separating Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) larger vehicles built specifically for use by the military, and smaller vehicles whose technology was intended for small business and recreation. now BAEa company specializing in aerospace and defense products enters this intersection with drones compactpotentially disposable and with oversized capabilities, targeted at military customers.

A pair of compact BAE drones, dubbed the Concept 1 and Concept 2, are designed to carry out surveillance and military intelligence missions, but can also carry very heavy and potentially destructive payloads, up to 500 kgbye five hours and Height 12 thousand meters. The flight speed also makes the average magazine drone jealous: Concept 1 and Concept 2 will reach the speed Mach 0.5 and 0.75respectively.

BAE didn’t provide further details on the pair of concepts, but it looks like the new UAVs are designed to provide an expanded range of military-grade drone capabilities in a body shrunk down to the size of conventional consumer products.

Drone concept 1

The Concept 1 is a small, double-sided, rail-based aircraft that can reach altitudes of up to 30,000 feet (9,000 meters). It is capable of flying for four hours while carrying 40 kg of payload and can operate alone or in “swarms”, what BAE calls an “indispensable but recoverable” asset.

Drone concept 2

The more bulky Concept 2 weighs no more than 3,500 kg. It takes off from a runway and can carry up to 500 kg of cargo at 40,000 feet (12,000 meters) for five hours. It is also intended for reconnaissance, surveillance and reconnaissance and can operate from land or sea.

The compact military drone can be equipped with air-to-ground munitions and air-to-air missiles. It’s what BAE called “wearable” but designed for over 100 missions.”

This latest description may be a sign that BAE’s goal is to create new classes of drones that are at the same time more compact, less expensive, and even more effective in responding to conflict scenarios that are rapidly changing with the introduction of consumer technology.
