The European Space Agency (ESA) Mars Express spacecraft has photographed the surface of Mars, which resembles the Grand Canyon in the United States, one of the deepest canyons
As reported by Ukrinform, this is stated in the European agency’s press release.
The image shows two cracks in the Martian crust, part of the mighty Mariner Valley canyon system on the Red Planet.
Mariner Valley crosses Mars in the same way that the Grand Canyon crosses the United States, except that the latter is very small compared to the former. At 4,000 km long, 200 km wide and up to 7 km deep, the Mariner Valley is almost ten times longer, 20 times wider and five times deeper than the Grand Canyon.
The photograph also shows two ditches (valleys) that form part of the western Mariner Valley. On the left is the 840 kilometer long Io Canyon, on the right is the 805 kilometer Tithonium Chasma Canyon.
As reported by Ukrinform, the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Mars Express spacecraft photographed the crater located in the Aonia Terra region in the southern highlands of Mars.
