Within a few years the quality of wireless bluetooth headphones has improved exponentially. I still remember the first ones I tried a few years ago, and when I compare the sound to what we can enjoy today, it still amazes me how well the technology has evolved. So much so that I didn’t even consider using Bluetooth headphones back then, and yet I do so with some frequency today.
In this regard, the indisputable contribution of Apple is with its AirPods, headphones that, after adding the sound quality and the functions of their integration with the ecosystem of the company’s devices, are a benchmark for many other manufacturers. And just as in many cases quality is only part of the equation, the added value of additional features is in many cases making one option weigh more heavily than another.
In the case of Bluetooth headsets Apple made a very smart move by allowing you to quickly switch between two different audio sources.. So, for example, if you’re watching a video on your iPad and a call comes in on your iPhone, you can instantly and automatically switch from your tablet to your phone without having to go into your iPhone’s settings menu and let it connect to your headphones, something complicated when a call comes in.

The good news is that Google has taken note and as we can read in IThome (in Chinese), it already has a similar technology ready that if necessary, it will allow immediate and automatic switching between sound sourcesbased on a predetermined system of priorities.
At this point, it is important to clarify that the priority system will allow automatic switching of the audio source of the headphones when there is an incoming call, but not with the notifications that we receive on the phone. But it will be interesting to check if the Google solution allows you to manually adjust this priority order And if so, with what level of customization (for example, if it allows you to choose whether certain app or system notifications automatically toggle the sound).
In its first phase, Google introduces seamless audio switching technology for Pixel Buds Pro headphonesand it’s expected to make its way to headphones as well Sony and JBL in the coming weeks. If this technology spreads to handsets from multiple manufacturers soon, it will surely be great news for Android users.
