The American prototype of the air defense system based on the Israeli “Iron Dome” successfully completed a series of tests

Dubbed the Marine Corps Medium Range Intercept Capability (MRIC), the system combines the Iron Dome launcher and Tamir interceptor missiles with a Marine radar and command post.

In the first test, the MRIC hit several targets simultaneously launched, simulating cruise missiles from different directions and from different trajectories, the ministry said. According to the Department of Defense, the prototype was “adapted to the current assets and expeditionary requirements of the US Marine Corps.”

“This test demonstrated that the Iron Dome Repair interceptor and associated ground-based components can be quickly and effectively integrated into any relevant defense architecture and successfully intercept a variety of airborne threats in complex and advanced scenarios,” the head of the Ministry of Missile Defense Service said. Said. Defense Moshe Patel.

“Iron Dome has once again proven its effectiveness and operational capabilities in combat scenarios,” said Pini Jungman, vice president of Rafael’s air and missile defense division. “Rafael is proud to establish itself as a world leader in the development of state-of-the-art protection systems.”

The US military conducted the first Iron Dome test last summer, but did not fully integrate it into their systems. Originally designed to intercept missiles, Iron Dome has since been modernized and enhanced to be able to shoot down mortar shells, drones and cruise missiles as well.

The Iron Dome system, originally developed in Israel but greatly expanded with the financial support of the United States, has been in service in Israel for more than a decade, especially against short-range rockets fired from the Gaza Strip and the Syrian border. Currently, it is the lowest level of the country’s multi-layered air defense system, in which medium-range David Sling missile systems and long-range Strela missile systems join.

Israel is also developing a powerful laser air defense system called Iron Beam, which will work with the Iron Dome underneath Israel’s multi-layered air defense system.

The “Iron Dome” intercepted thousands of shells over the years of operation. The Iron Dome has saved hundreds of lives since it was first deployed in 2011.
