Google fired engineer Blake Lemoine, who has been on paid leave since last June after a company claimed its artificial intelligence (AI) program had emotions. This was reported by the newspaper this Saturday. New York Times.

On June 11, the tech giant released a transcript of his conversation with Google’s artificial intelligence system “Language Model for Dialog Applications” (LaMDA) under the title: Does LaMDA have feelings?

At one point in the conversation, LaMDA assured him that he sometimes had “new feelings” that he couldn’t explain “perfectly” in human language.

When asked by Lemoine to describe such a feeling, LaMDA replied, “I feel like I’m falling into an unknown future with great danger.” A sentence that the engineer underlined when publishing the dialog.

Google suspended the engineer for violating the company’s privacy policy.

“We have chosen to persistently violate explicit employment and data security policies that include the need to protect product information.” This was stated by a company spokesperson quoted by the newspaper.

By New York TimesThe day before he was impeached, Lemoine delivered the documents to a US senator’s office. In these he claimed to have evidence that Google and its technology practiced religious discrimination.

The company claims that their system mimics conversational exchanges and can talk about different topics, but not consciously.

The newspaper points out that Lemoine is currently investigating the possibility of taking legal action against Google.
