One thing has always been well known about Apple with the iPhone, and this is it technical specifications are not something that technology takes to heart. In its early days, when Steve Jobs was still running the company, keynotes were not about components, but about performance and features, a message that broke the industry standard but has proven successful over time. It changed a bit with Tim Cook taking over, yes they started talking about SoC to give it some importance but nothing else.

This explains that unlike what happens with Android phones, many iPhone users are unaware of the amount and type of RAM in their devices. When you buy an Android phone, this information is usually listed next to its name and storage capacity, and many models are offered in several versions with smaller and larger RAM. However, with an iPhone, you’ll have to dig into its technical specifications to find out. And I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, I’m just mentioning an important difference between the two platforms.

Be that as it may, the fact that Apple usually doesn’t mention the amount of RAM in their devices doesn’t mean that they don’t have it, or that there aren’t changes and improvements from time to time. It seems in this sense The iPhone 14 will be a remarkable leap compared to its predecessorbut it also seems that at this point Apple could introduce yet another difference between the base models (iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max) and the Pro and Pro Max versions.

And as we can read in PhoneArena, Base iPhone 14 models are expected to finally jump from 4 to 6 gigabytes of RAMmaking it equal to the current generation Pro models at 13. If the Pro models didn’t also make the expected jump to 8 gigabytes, that would leave the four models on par. it doesn’t seem consistent with Apple’s plans to differentiate between the two groups.

So rumors suggest that in order to enforce this segmentation Apple will continue to install LPDDR4X memory in the base modelsreserving LPDDR5 for Pro models. This differentiation would add to the more than persistent rumors that for the first time in many years, two iPhone generations will share the same SoC, the A15 Bionic, as the A16 Bionic would be aimed exclusively at the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.

The difference in performance and efficiency between both types of memory, LPDDR4X and LPDDR5, is more than proven, and we are not exactly talking about a new product on the market, as LPDDR5 has been present in it for a few years. I understand that Apple wants to distinguish between the ranges, but I think that for this purpose and in a more considerate way to its customers, it would be logical to fit 6 GB of LPDDR5 RAM in the iPhone 14 and 14 Max, and 8 gigabytes of LPDDR5 RAM in the Pro and Pro Max. Otherwise, what this rumor claims would be selling technology from the past at a very, very current price.
