WhatsApp is developing a new function that allows temporary messages to be saved in a specific section of the messaging app, even though the pre-configured viewing time has expired.

Enabling temporary chats that disappear after a certain period of time (initially 7 days) in November 2020, the company has integrated options such as new durations such as 24 hours 90 days a year later.

When the sender-generated display time expires, individually (in a single chat) or in several conversations, the temporary configured messages and all messages that are part of those chats with them are lost.

However, WhatsApp is working on a new function that allows you to store temporary messages and could be used in future beta updates of the ‘app’ for Android, iOS and Desktop.

Added the option to keep messages of chats temporarily configured in the app, as WABetaInfo can verify in a new version of the app.

This portal shared a screenshot where WhatsApp warned that “anyone can save or discard” messages in a temporary conversation and that group admins may limit this ability.

These messages can be viewed in a specific section. Specifically, in the Chat Information section, in a section called ‘Saved Messages’.

This feature is under development, so it’s not yet ready to be rolled out to beta testers of the app, and it’s unknown when it will reach other users.
