Russia has announced that it will withdraw from the International Space Station project.

Yuri Borisov, who was appointed as the head of Roscosmos on July 15, said that Russia will withdraw from the International Space Station (ISS) project after 2024.

He said so during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin, Ukrinform reported, citing Interfax.

“You know that we are working on the International Space Station within the framework of international cooperation. Of course, we will fulfill all our obligations to our partners, but the decision and departure from this station was made after 2024 … I think by then we will start building the Russian orbital station.” said.

In response, NASA stated that they had not received any official notification from the Russian side about their plans to withdraw from the ISS project.

When Yuriy Borisov assumed the post of Deputy Prime Minister responsible for the military-industrial complex in April 2021, he said that Russia will not participate in the ISS project after 2024.

According to the mass media, there are currently no elements of the future station in Russia.

The International Space Station is a manned space complex orbiting the Earth at an altitude of about 415 kilometers. Established in 1998, the station was originally supposed to last until 2010, but was later extended several times to 2024. The station is designed for scientific and medical research in space.
