The developers promise to release a promotional copy of the Tempest jet by 2027. In Great Britain, it will be assembled and tested at the factory in Wharton, Lancashire.

One of the Tempest’s features will be artificial intelligence (AI) that will assist the pilot in situations where he is at the limit of his strength and abilities or under severe stress.

Sensors in the pilot’s helmet will read human brain signals and other medical information. Thus, during test flights, the “smart helmet” will collect a database of a particular pilot’s unique biometric and psychometric data, allowing the onboard AI to intervene and take over if the sensors indicate that the pilot needs help – for example, if he faints.

It is assumed that during the flights Tempest will be surrounded by fighter jets, which the fighter developers call “additional vehicles.”

The British government has already allocated £2bn for the Tempest project, and this amount will likely increase severalfold before the aircraft enters service.
