E Ink, a company specializing in electrophoretic displays it calls “digital paper,” has announced the launch of its next-generation E Ink Kaleido color display technology. E Ink Kaleido 3 is said to be “perfect” for ebooks, offering richer colours, 16 shades of gray and 4096 colours.
Optimizing the structure of the screen increased the color saturation by 30% compared to the previous generation called E Ink Kaleido Plus. E Ink Kaleido 3 uses E Ink Print Color ePaper technology, where a series of color filters (CFA) complete the black and white E Ink Carta film, creating a full color device.
In addition to the improved color, Kaleido 3 uses the new E Ink ComfortGaze backlight technology. It provides additional comfort while reading by reducing the amount of blue light displayed on the surface of the screen. “Blue Light Ratio” (BLR) and “Blue Light Toxicity Ratio” (BLTF) have been reduced by 60% and 24%, respectively, compared to the previous generation.
E Ink Kaleido 3 modules are available in a variety of sizes, including 7.8, 10.3 and 13.3 inches. The high speed of handwriting response allows the module to play animation and video, opening new opportunities for digital reading and writing in educational and professional programs. Source
