As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).
The spacecraft was able to photograph the eddies on Jupiter, thanks to its JunoCam camera, during its 43rd approach to the planet on July 5 of this year.
It is stated that these powerful storms can reach 50 kilometers high and hundreds of kilometers wide.
Understanding exactly how they form is key to understanding the fluid dynamics and cloud chemistry that create Jupiter’s atmosphere, as well as other atmospheric features of the planet.
Scientists are particularly interested in the various shapes, sizes and colors of these eddies. For example, cyclones that rotate counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere, clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere, and anticyclones that rotate clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and counterclockwise in the Southern Hemisphere have very different colors and shapes.
As reported by Ukrinform, the European Space Agency (ESA) Mars Express spacecraft photographed the surface of Mars, resembling the Grand Canyon in the USA.
