Amazon Prime, Amazon’s subscription service (which will soon increase its price in Spain) it includes, as we have told you on several occasions, a huge number of services except for the main feature, shipping is free. From unlimited photo storage to the basic version of Prime Music and of course its video-on-demand service Prime Video. The offer is so varied that as a result there are many users who do not know everything that is included in Prime.
A feature that is not very well known, but has been used until now as a supplement to other features and services, is Amazon Drive, a cloud storage service with which the company at some point tried to compete with other services of the same style. However, unlike other areas in which it has managed to position its proposition well, Amazon Drive has always remained in the shadow of its competitors.
This explains it to us, although it is not the main reason given by the company Amazon Drive has just started the shutdown process, as reported by Amazon on its blog. The announcement was made today, but the company has set fairly long deadlines for users to properly manage the contents of their online folders to prevent unwanted losses.

So these are the deadlines set for Amazon Drive closure:
- 31 October 2022: Amazon will remove the Amazon Drive app from the iOS and Android app stores.
- January 31, 2023: As of this date, users will no longer be able to upload new files to their Amazon Drive accounts, although they will still be able to access the ones they’ve uploaded up to that point.
- December 31, 2023: Starting today, users will no longer be able to access their drives and files. The only exception will be photos, which will at least theoretically be automatically migrated to Amazon Photos. However, for security reasons, we recommend that you manually check that the said migration has taken place correctly.
As we can read in the Amazon publication, lThe reason for this move is to focus our efforts on Google Photos, its cloud-based photo and video storage service that has coexisted with Amazon Drive for several years. A move that makes sense, as the success that Amazon Drive never achieved can be attributed to Amazon Photos, an option highly valued by users thanks to Amazon’s unlimited photo storage policy for subscribers.
