Recently, Marsh Tukanovsenior geographer and cartographer mapboxcreated interactive map detailing the world’s most influential people in various fields including culture, science, leadership and sports. In this view, users can find cities around the world and see who is the most famous person in each location.

The world map available on this site uses information gathered from research pulled from Wikipedia and Wikidata for use in a recent study published in Nature, where the main goal was to calculate the degree of fame of the most famous people in the world using some rules. Among these requirements:

• The number of edits to Wikipedia by each person;
• Length: The total number of words in all available biographies. Equal to zero for individuals with only one Wikidata entry and no biography on Wikipedia;
• Average number of biography views (visits) of each person between 2015 and 2018 across all available language editions using the API available on Wikitech.Wikimedia, or zero in the absence of a Wikipedia biography;
• Number of non-missing items obtained from Wikipedia or Wikidata, by date of birth, gender, and sphere of influence;
• The total number of external links (sources, links, etc.) to Wikidata.

In the survey, users find the most important celebrities and people in history by looking at how each person is ranked in terms of fame. Tyukanov’s interactive map is also important for anyone who wants to know where this or that artist was born. In Brazil, for example, great mentions in terms of fame include names such as Pelé, Gisele Bündchen, Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, Gustavo Kuerten and Selton Mello.
