Bad news for those using Amazon Prime services for computer or mobile file storage: Amazon Drive, Amazon’s public cloud, will close its doors at the end of 2023. Of course, this does not affect Amazon Photos: it will still be possible to create backup copies of the gallery (and unlimited image uploads will be available within Amazon Prime).

Cloud storage not only serves to support local space but also helps protect important data. And thanks to the multi-device feature, They are perfect for exchanging documents, programs and other files between computer and mobile phone. (and vice versa). Google Drive is one of the best known clouds, also Dropbox or One Drive. And despite not being widely used in Spain, Amazon Drive remains a serious alternative as well. At least until now.

Amazon Drive is Amazon’s public cloud. save any file type by sorting the field with folders, just like any computer (or phone storage). Amazon doesn’t mention Drive in the Spanish Prime Minister, but it works: To manage your Personal Drive, simply access this link with your Amazon account. Amazon Drive also has mobile apps: for Android and iPhone or iPad.

The end of the Amazon cloud has already been marked: according to the company itself, Files will no longer be accessible as of December 31, 2023. That’s why anyone using Amazon Drive should find an alternative before that date to preserve everything that isn’t photos and videos. This media content is safe: Amazon Photos will still exist.

The definitive shutdown of Amazon Drive carries the following deadlines:

  • 31 October 2022. Amazon will remove Drive apps from its app stores (Android and iOS).
  • January 31, 2023. You will no longer be able to upload files to the Amazon cloud. Photos and videos will not have this restriction (always within the usage limits Amazon offers on accounts). Files already uploaded will remain accessible.
  • 31 December 2023. All files uploaded to Amazon Drive, except photos and videos, will be deleted forever.

We should emphasize that End of Amazon Drive does not affect Amazon Photos: Uploading images and videos are not changed, only the rest of the files synced to the Amazon cloud. It’s now convenient to look for alternatives: starting January 31st, Amazon will not allow anything to be uploaded to Drive.
