Imp of the Sun. is the first film by Sunwolf Entertainment, an independent studio of Peruvian origin, that comes to the fore with metroidvania to use for your concept, but with a personal touch attractive enough to look at, at least for those like me who have this subgenre so popular and distinctive at the same time.
I qualified for all this almost immediately Imp of the Sun. like metroidvania, but the truth is, I don’t like the term very much. As it usually happens, Imp of the Sun. has more Metroid than Castlevania, but because we are strict, we are talking about the game 2D action and platform of all those lives … and which are now included in the words of ancient times. Let’s run a thick fleece.
Imp of the Sun. It went on sale without much attention on March 24 for consoles and PCs, which is usually said, although it’s worth clarifying: for consoles, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series; and for PC, but only for Windows. Be that as it may, it seems like the right thing for the first release, but given the type of game, it would be great if it came on Linux and Mac.
In my case, I played it on a Nintendo Switch and in portable mode from start to finish.
Imp of the Sun, the power of the Sun.
According to official information, the most prominent features Imp of the Sun. they include its Peruvian origins, from which it takes inspiration for its history and environment (but not from Peru as such, but from the pre-Columbian Inca culture established in these parts); being hand drawn and have an original soundtrack performed by a “live studio orchestra using local historical instruments thousands of years old.”
As for the story, that’s not it Imp of the Sun. he cares a lot about it, because it’s just a common thread for directing adventures, but it has its charm because it suits the whole very well. Generally speaking, the guardians of nature have risen against the sun and caused an eclipse that is about to plunge the world into darkness. To prevent this, Nin is an orc created from the last spark of the Sun itself with a mission to defeat the guards and restore the power of the star.
World Imp of the Sun. It consists of four zones with their respective bosses, which are the guards you will have to go through more than once to complete the game: the desert, the jungles, the mountains and the dark depths of the earth, each of them. with its peculiarities and classes of enemies; each of them is ruled by one of the four guards you must defeat.
How do you reach your goal? Learn to master Nina, an orc capable of double jumps, gliding on the ground and air, bouncing off walls, attacking combos and more as you progress and gain upgrades. Definitely, Imp of the Sun. is not very different from a typical approach established by the classic Metroid and other games of the time, which is nothing more or less than expected. The question is whether everything is well managed and the answer is…
‘Imp of the Sun’ sounds better than it looks, but it looks good
Once the pillars of the game are described, it is time to analyze them and the truth is that it is not difficult. Plus, because it’s a title that drinks the most classic, it’s worth doing the traditional way of graphics, music, gameplay, etc., although what you see is what you get. Thus, Imp of the Sun. He has no trap or carton.
One of the most striking features at the same time and the most grateful for the game is its appearance, and at Sunwolf Entertainment they can feel proud that they have managed to shed light on the cohesive aesthetics that add personality. Imp of the Sun.. Everything is in place: environment, characters and enemies, lighting and animation … And the guards, perhaps the most successful ingredient on a visual level.
At the moment, I don’t know if hand-drawing contributes or not, because frankly, it’s hard to tell, and where it’s most noticeable, it’s on screens like the map and other “props.”
The same happens with the sound section: the effects are not out of tune and the music, soundtrack, accompanies the hero on his adventures and sometimes provides a little different feelings.
So even though the score is full of Andean nuances, the structure is fully Western, the kind you’d expect in a normal adventure video game … Which isn’t bad at all: music from Imp of the Sun. that’s great and as such is sold separately.
‘Imp of the Sun’, blaming it for gerund
The issue of gameplay is perhaps the most difficult to analyze, because it divides the various aspects of the game itself. For example, the level design is quite balanced and it’s hard to get lost or stuck, even if a false sense of freedom can push you to dare for something you’re not ready for yet.
In terms of development Imp of the Sun. It’s a typical game in which you have to gain a certain power or object before you can advance through a certain area, forcing players to bypass the same scenarios more than once. The good thing is that don’t get tired because the game is short and what to do are limited.
In fact, no add-ons (a quipus search that expands the story of the game or hidden objects in scenarios that can be used to increase level points) Imp of the Sun. it would be too short, so it can be said that they managed to find a balance at this end as well.
There is little comment on what has already been said about the character’s movements and abilities: it is what you expect from this type of game and it is well implemented, everything fits as it should and there are no impossible challenges unless you are very bad at platforms. The most difficult are the final bosses, and the point is to get the right sequence so that you can get rid of them with a little dexterity.
If anything Imp of the Sun. This can’t make duels more fun, because as you progress and gain more skills, such as push-button attack combos, enemies lose all ability to challenge. The special abilities that the guards give you when you defeat them also don’t improve it, and it makes you feel like you’re too many because you can hardly use them.
The development of the game is really very well shot, but it is not too difficult and details like the latter extend a decent duration, which you can extend with various challenges. For example, spend Imp of the Sun. in three hours (more often the first time you would play would be between six and ten hours depending on how you take it).

‘Imp of the Sun’, a great start
Total, Imp of the Sun. It’s a great start as an introductory game, because while it could be improved if you wanted, what’s in there is well done. Now that I read some more coverage of it, compare with Ori and the blind forest It’s the most repetitive and for good reason, given that the similarities with this game are multiple … as can be the case with many other games of this style. But from here to talk Imp of the Sun. like the Peruvian Ori there is a stretch.
No, Imp of the Sun. is not Or me Peruvian. Ori and the blind forest or Ori and Will Wisps They are on a different level in everything and believe it Imp of the Sun. offers something similar, beyond the type of game, I don’t think it goes in favor of the other, a much more humble bet, I repeat, in everything. And nothing happens. Many independent studios would like to have a debut as round as Imp of the Sun..
There were even those who wondered how he could recommend Imp of the Sun. above Or me or others metroidvania 2D action platformer like Hollow knight either Dead cells… And what I would like to know is when the recommendation is revoked, because there are more recommended alternatives if possible. Everything can be played!
Of course, when it comes to wondering things, I wonder … what has that got to do with Imp of the Sun. with Yooka Laylee?
