Yeah, talking about edited tweets might come as a bit of a surprise, since we talked about it seriously (that is, because the social network confirmed that it was indeed working on the feature) back in April, and shortly after that we learned how it would work. there has been no further news about it since then, so we’re still waiting for Twitter to start rolling it out. Something I don’t think so, but I’m afraid so, could be directly related to Twitter Blue’s price rise.
And the thing is, if we think about it a little, as we already mentioned yesterday, the price increase of Twitter Blue does not make sense in the current conditions, the payment method of the social network does not offer enough to compensate for the monthly payment of five dollars. However, if Twitter decided to hide this feature from the rest of its users immediately after the price hike and only reserve it for those who pay, that would give the price hike another reason to exist… although this leads to the anger of many users of the service.
Be that as it may, and pending its arrival, it seems that the social network is already testing some features related to editing, as it tells us in a tweet the ever successful Jane Manchun Wong who found out embedded tweets will show indications of when the original was edited. This way, those who see the messages will be able to quickly see if there has been any material change to them since they were posted.
As we told you back then, the approach to editing tweets seems, at least a priori, quite successfuland consists in the fact that the social network, instead of simply annotating the modification, preserves the original message and stores its modified version in connection with it. In this way, it will be possible to check what the release consists of, which is especially practical in case of possible abuse of this feature, such as changing the meaning of the message or turning it into an advertising claim once it has achieved significant diffusion.
