The James Webb Space Telescope photographed the Wagon’s Wheel galaxy and two smaller companion galaxies.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by NASA.

The Wheel of the Wagon galaxy is located about 500 million light-years from Earth in the constellation of the Sculptor. Its current appearance is the result of a high-speed collision between a large spiral galaxy and a smaller, invisible galaxy.

Other telescopes, including the Hubble Space Telescope, had worked on the Ferris Wheel before, but view was blocked due to the large amount of dust.

Instead, James Webb has given researchers a new understanding of the nature of the Wagon’s Wheel, thanks to its ability to detect infrared light.

The observations make it clear that the galaxy is in a transitional phase. Before the collision, it was probably a normal spiral galaxy like the Milky Way and is now undergoing a transformation.

As reported by Ukrinform, the most powerful James Webb telescope worth $10 billion was launched into space at the end of December. The observatory’s main goals include the study of the first exoplanets, protostars.
