A mobile application for responding to and countering cases of domestic and gender-based violence was presented in Kiev with the participation of First Lady Olena Zelenska and Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Denys Monastyrskyi.
This was reported by the Ukrinform correspondent.
“I think this is a very interesting app. It can be installed by anyone with a smartphone. It’s a top secret “SOS” button. On the other hand, the National Police will answer the call instantly.” said the first lady.
In contrast, Deputy Interior Minister Kateryna Pavlichenko noted that according to the survey conducted by the UN Population Fund in Ukraine, more than 73% of respondents believe that it is more difficult to call the police in case of domestic violence than in other situations. . At the same time, 93% said they would like to have a service that would allow the police to be called with the press of a button without calling 102.
Therefore, this mobile application was created in cooperation with international partners. His name is not made public for the benefit of women who need this tool.
“Usually, such a woman does not have her own space, personal correspondence, access to all possible services, including the Internet, because this control is on the abuser’s side. Therefore, we have disguised this practice so as not to arouse it. It raises suspicion in the abuser so that she does not pay any more attention to it,” Pavlichenko said.
The functionality of the application includes useful information about domestic and gender-based violence, an “SOS” call button, a map with the nearest social services for victims, etc. Only the user can directly access the internal interface.
“The application is integrated with the National Police, which will ensure the contact of the dispatcher and give an appropriate response. It provides pre-positioning, so as not to waste time later. That is, the operator sees the information message and police units will be directed (to the place called)” , – said the deputy minister.
The application is currently available for download in the AppStore and Play Market. Women can contact the helpline for details on downloading and working with it. 116123 or in private messages of the “Break the Circle” page on Facebook.
Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky expressed his belief that small steps such as this practice constitute a real effort to combat domestic violence.
British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons and UN Population Fund’s Ukraine representative Jaime Nadal also attended the event.
As reported, a hotline 15-47 operates in Ukraine to combat violence.
