WhatsApp already had several updates focused on the privacy and security of its users, rather than adding aesthetic options or functions that continue to be added to the app. The latest changes to this approach to privacy It was announced by Mark Zuckerberg in a post on Facebook, the former parent company (now Meta).

What Mark is telling us is that WhatsApp will soon get three new options focused on privacy, which will allow us to hide certain aspects of our account from strangers or who we want to disappear. For example, the app will allow us to hide that we are connected online. Moreover (finally) we can leave a group without anyone knowing and temporary photos can be protected from screenshots.

Decide who can see when you’re online

One of the features that will be coming soon as WhatsApp is not active at the moment, It’s been appearing in some beta versions for a while and for users selected by the application. It looks like WhatsApp has finally decided to roll out for all users of the app and a new setting to decide who can see when we’re online.

Until now, we could decide who can see the time of our last connection between ‘Everyone’, ‘My Contacts’, ‘My contacts except…’ and ‘Nobody’. With the last connection set, we will now have our online status and can decide whether we want everyone to see us connected or behave the same as the last connection. So, limit who can see us and who can’t.

Another of the improvements partially solves one of WhatsApp’s biggest headaches, the issue of splitting into groups. Since the app doesn’t seem to want us to prevent people from putting us into groups without our consent, we can now unsubscribe from them without anyone noticing. Beyond that, we will of course cease to be part of the member list. Those who leave the group will not leave a trace. Say goodbye to the message that this or that person has left the group. Farewell to the full-fledged French, but in the WhatsApp version.

Finally, WhatsApp will allow us to block screenshots of temporary photos we send. If we send one of the currently lost photos, the other user can take a screenshot. So it turns our temporary photo into a permanent shot. WhatsApp wants to solve this by blocking captures. So what we send to disappear will disappear. Not bad.
