Google plans to add interoperability between Wear OS smartwatches and Google TV devices by the end of 2024. The company aims to expand support and strengthen the presence of Google TV in the market in the next few years. This was announced by the Protocol portal after a closed-door meeting with the company’s management and partners.

According to what has been announced, the first step will be to add Nest Audio smart speaker support to the company’s smart TVs, which should happen in 2022. Such functionality was already expected in 2020, but Google itself seems to have forgotten about Nest. Audio speakers despite this, integration should finally come “In the Coming Months”. The Fast Pair feature, a tool for quickly pairing Bluetooth devices, is expected to arrive by the end of 2022 or early 2023, according to what was listed on the protocol portal.

Google TV integrated into Google wearables

The focus of the meeting was the integration of Google wearables into Google TV and therefore Android TV. OUR Wear OS interaction was supposed to allow for interactive exercises., with fitness data such as calories burned, heart rate, respiration rate, and other data displayed on the TV. Rivals Apple and Samsung offer similar features, and Google seems eager to compete with them. Until the moment there is no confirmation of all the ways the smartwatch can be used to interact with Google TV.

Integration is expected by the end of 2024, but could be rolled out earlier, as early as 2023. Over the next two years, the company plans to provide enhanced support and interoperability for its smart devices. Access to security cameras and smart home controls “no interruption to the experience when watching movies” also in the plans.
