Facebook Messenger will be more secure than ever: end-to-end encrypted calls and backups under testing

Instant messaging apps for mobile phones have become much more widely used than their origins. We no longer just send plain text messages, we also send documents, photos, videos, voice messages and much more. Our connections use them to stay close to us and that’s why your safety is very important.

Recently, apps like Messenger, the messaging born with Facebook added, have been making improvements, and now the company has announced that its backups are ready to be armored. Facebook Messenger will soon have end-to-end encryption backups, the highest level ever. They also try other changes.

Facebook Messenger will be more secure than ever

WhatsApp, which is also owned by Facebook, unlike the most popular application on the market, Messenger has cloud storage. We log in from any device and our message history is always there, waiting for us. Along with it are photos, videos, files, and anything else we add to our conversations.

To protect all this storage, Messenger is testing user security one more step. we talk about end-to-end encryption for backups This allows us to recover our entire message archive when we switch phones. Encrypting this copy end-to-end ensures that the transmission between the server and the phone is completely protected.

Protecting chats with a PIN and end-to-end encryption

This security improvement will go hand in hand with what Messenger calls ‘safe storage’. With our end-to-end encrypted conversations, we will be able to create a safe that only we can access and recover. This vault can be protected with a PIN or by generating a recovery code that we must keep in a safe place.

As part of its integration with third-party services, Messenger will be able to: generate secret keys to upload our chats to iCloud or Google Drive. Currently the process is already running, but it will also be end-to-end encrypted, maximizing the level of security so that our information is not tampered with.

Encrypted calls

In addition to this secure storage, Facebook is trying to move some of its features to other parts of the system. For example, bringing end-to-end encryption to replies to stories, allowing us not to send messages, or Add encrypted calls to Messenger. It will also be possible to disable automatic deletion of messages in private chats, and more functionality is planned for Instagram, such as group chats. For now, Facebook has not given a specific date for the landing of any of these improvements.
