Vivaldi 5.4 is a new version of the web browser for PC (Linux, Mac, Windows) and like the other Chromium 104 derivatives that have come out in the last week and a half, it uses a fundamental change to feed on it, but contributing to its own set of news.

So Vivaldi 5.4 affects leitmotif project since its inception by Opera Software founder and former CEO Jon S. von Tetzchner, and it’s nothing but customization. So there is a new batch of options with which to extend the customization options of the browser.

As per the official announcement, the first of these options is the one of mute web panels, i.e. the pages that are added there and which by their nature are likely to be silenced. For example, music sites, podcasts and radio, videos, news services, social networks, etc. You can find this option in the context menu (only on current pages, not in browser services such as bookmarks, history, etc.).

Vivaldi 5.4 also expands the options for configuring mouse gestures and allows you to assign own rocker gestures, i.e. those that were made with buttons and basic mouse movements and that were assigned functions that could not be edited until now. Everything changes with this version, and these and other mouse gestures are fully customizable.

Another new feature in Vivaldi 5.4 is integration direct links in the context menu. Deep linking is a feature of Chromium-based browsers that Google introduced some time ago, which makes it possible to link to specific pieces of text on a web page. Vivaldi has integrated them into a new option called “Copy link to selected text”. More information about direct links can be found here.

Vivaldi 5.4 adds another option, this one for security, which could have been added years ago because the invention is years old: force connection using HTTPS on those sites that still appear unencrypted but have an encrypted connection, most of them currently. The funny thing is that this option is disabled by default. You can activate it in “Settings > Address bar > Security features > Always use secure connections (HTTPS)”.

Finally, Vivaldi 5.4 reserves a lot of fixes for it productive set, the first stable version of which was released last June, shortly after the release of Vivaldi 5.3. By productivity suite, we mean an email manager, calendar manager and news reader integrated into the same browser.

In short, if Vivaldi Mail 1.0 (that’s what the suite is called, although it has other components) came out in June, now it’s coming Vivaldi Mail 1.1the new version, however, focuses on put wax, polish waxgiven how complex the mail and calendar applications already were and how sensitive the information they handle.
