Not safe? Hacker hacked into Starlink and questioned network security

Belgian scientist Lennert Wouters has created a tool that can bypass Starlink’s security systems. O security researcher at KU Leuven used the tool to act like a hacker and hack Starlink. Wouters presented the results of his invasion of Black Hat Security Conference, a kind of “hacker” event held in Las Vegas.which is designed to identify security holes, not to exploit them, but to improve the security of networks.

The hardware used to hack Starlik costs $25

Contrary to what one might imagine, the equipment used for the invasion was not worth millions. In fact, a researcher at KU Leuven put together a modchip, a special printed circuit board with parts, for a total cost of just $25.

Using the modchip, the researcher attached the device to the antenna, allowing the intrusion. “The wide availability of Starlink user terminals (UTs) makes them vulnerable to hardware hackers and gives attackers the freedom to use the network.”Wouters commented. The intrusion results in Starlink being irreparably compromised, capable of executing arbitrary code, allowing free use of the end network. Researcher KU Leuven says the only way to solve the problem is to create a new version of the chip used in the antennas.

Wouters commented that the Starlink invasion not designed to destroy CEO Elon Musk’s satellite network. In fact, your research is intended to produce a material capable of strengthening Starlink’s security system.. In this way, Musk’s Satellite Internet can improve its systems and provide a secure and high-quality Internet connection around the world.

Now it remains to be seen whether Elon Musk will pay attention and take the Starlink intrusion seriously in order to improve network security and prevent intruders from invading the system and irreparably damaging the Internet network.
