Although Samsung’s display division is the world’s leading manufacturer of OLED panels, the company believed it would be more profitable to purchase displays for its side TVs. The South Korean company LG Display was chosen as the supplier and negotiations with it were reported by the local media.

According to insiders, Samsung plans to buy low-cost OLED panels for entry-level TVs from LG Display. These are M-series displays with 150 nits of brightness. In addition to the M-series, LG OLED TV panels are available in two categories: R and P. R, a premium display series with 200 nits of brightness, and the P-series screens are a mid-range offering, with 180 nits of brightness.

Sources say Samsung chose screens from the cheapest LG lineup to maximize profits from selling the TV. The Korean tech giant also asked LG Display if they could develop a more affordable version of their panel with 200 nits of brightness.

Details of the deal, including scope and timing of delivery, have yet to be disclosed. It was previously reported that Samsung is ready to buy at least 1.5-2 million panels from citizens. LG Display’s production capacity is currently estimated at around 8 million OLED displays per year for TVs.

It will be remembered that Samsung for a long time refused to release TVs with OLED screens and introduced QLED models. However, after a 9-year hiatus, the Korean company decided to give up and return to the OLED TV market.
