It’s been rumored for the past few days, but Microsoft finally confirmed it a few hours ago: Next Tuesday, August 23, Death Stranding will enter the Xbox Game Pass catalog for PC, so PC and Ultimate subscribers will be able to start playing the ineffable Hideo Kojima’s latest creation within days. A title that hit the market in its PlayStation version at the end of 2019 and a few months later, in July 2020, on PC.
More recently, the Death Stranding Director’s Cut debuted in its PlayStation version in late 2021 and made its way to PC last March of this year. Let us recall that the game was developed by Kojima Productions, but that it belongs to Sony, which, together with 505 Games, also took on the distribution of all versions. Being a PlayStation exclusive, versions for other platforms are not planned or expected.
As for the version that will debut on Xbox Game Pass, we will find some improvements over the PC version released in 2020, not the Director’s Cut. However, the big question is whether or not Microsoft will bring Death Stranding for PC to the Xbox Cloud on the release date, or perhaps later. This would be a very interesting move, as this way it would be possible to play a Sony-exclusive title on the Xbox.
As mentioned earlier, the Xbox Game Pass version of Death Stranding will be the 2020 edition, although it is true that it will include the following bonuses:
Model Ludens gold mask and glasses
gold and silver exoskeleton
Gold and silver Exoskeleton for every terrain
Gold and silver armor
Death Stranding has been on the market ever since a game that did not leave the majority indifferent. Praised ad nauseum by some who consider it a masterpiece, reviled by others who in a recurring joke at launch called it a delivery simulator (Mail simulator, Glovo simulator, Seur simulator, etc.). is gaining the recognition of more and more players, a point that the Director’s Cut had a lot in common with, though it also spawned more than one joke.
Why? Very easy. Director’s Cuts of films, plays, etc. are usually released when the director/creator of said works did not have as much control over the production as they would have liked at the time. This happens routinely in movies, and studio heads push in a direction that may not always coincide with the direction of the director. In this particular case, however, the original game and its development were fully controlled by Hideo Kojima, at Kojima Productions… I think you get where I’m going with this, right?
Be that as it may, be that way great news for Game Pass users on PC who have already played it and liked it, and for those who over time felt a certain curiosity but didn’t get around to trying it. What’s more, it’s also a good opportunity for those who initially rejected it. Who knows, maybe the experience will surprise them for good.
