Google has invested more than $1.5 billion, equivalent to R$8 billion at the current price, in blockchain investments between September 2021 and June this year. The data was published this week by Blockdata, a company specializing in the analysis and research of cryptocurrencies.
According to the report, this investment came from Alphabet, the parent company of Google. The numbers make it the company that invested the most in blockchain among the top 40 public corporations that invested in crypto during this period.
Of this total investment, the majority was concentrated in the four companies in this segment. Among the recipients of this grant are Fireblocks, Web3 Dapper Labs, Bitcoin Voltage and Digital Currency Group.
The new stance taken by Google is in line with what they themselves did last year when they diversified those investments. At the time, he invested just over $600 million in 17 blockchain companies such as Dapper Labs, Alchemy, Blockchain.com, Celo, Helium, and Ripple.
Figures provided by Blockdata showed that the 40 companies that invested in blockchain invested a total of $6 billion during this period. This figure is well over $1.9 billion between January and September 2021 and $506 million for all of 2020.
The list of investors includes industry giants
A report published this week shows that Google is not the only one making big investments in the blockchain world. This is because other giants known all over the world have also made million dollar investments in some companies in this segment.
Next to Alphabet is Samsung. After investing just under $1 billion, they selected 13 companies to invest in. The list also includes the presence of PayPal, Microsoft, LG and American Express. The last two, however, had a lower investment weight, not exceeding US$200 million.
Lesser known to the general public, BlackRock and Morgan Stanley also invested about US$1 billion. It is no coincidence that they took the same approach as Google, choosing fewer companies and concentrating more capital.
