It is possible, and especially if you are an iOS and YouTube Premium user, that you are wondering why this news is valid, because PiP can be used on the iPhone for a little over a year. However, so far, this feature has been available in experimental mode, which was also available only to users who pay for YouTube premium mode. However, this will soon cease to apply.
This story begins when Apple announces iOS 14 in June 2020 and says that one of the operating system’s innovations will be the PiP (Picture in Picture) feature, which allows floating content to be displayed in one corner of the screen while the rest of the screen shows another application. A feature that fits perfectly with YouTube… Until Google ceased to be compatible with this feature through its application, just a few months later, in line with the advent of iOS 14 to users.
Since then, the only way to use picture-in-picture with YouTube on iOS has been an experimental feature that, as I mentioned, was only available to Premium users. Well, as the official YouTube account confirms On Twitter, Picture-in-Picture leaves experimental mode and will be available on all iOS 15 devices in a few days.
So now the big question is, can you imagine whether in-picture will remain an exclusive feature for YouTube Premium users Or, conversely, and in line with what the company announced a few months ago about music content, users of free accounts will be able to play PiP content while performing other tasks with their iPhone. And, of course, possible differences in this regard in different geographical areas.
And that’s right, in statements about it earlier YouTube has claimed that PiP on iOS will be available for free U.S. accountsand later the ability to listen to background music was initially introduced in Canada. Common sense suggests that sooner or later it will spread to the rest of the world, but the key will, of course, be the speed of that deployment, because it would not be the first or second time that the expansion function of any service would take years.
