The State Special Communications and Information Protection Service warned citizens of the possible increase in attacks by Russian hackers before Independence Day – August 24.

As reported by Ukrinform, the press service of the State Special Communications Service reported this in Telegram.

“The independence and freedom of Ukraine does not give rest to the Russian invaders. On important national dates, when the enemy usually becomes more active. Therefore, we expect increased attacks of the invaders on the eve and day of the celebration. The most important national holiday for Ukrainians – Independence Day. And not only on the battlefield, in cyberspace too”.

The department stressed that anyone can be affected by hackers, but in the zone of increased danger – government officials, military personnel, critical infrastructure workers, they can become a point of access to government information systems.

The State Intelligence Service made recommendations on how to protect against hacker attacks.

You should change all weak passwords, especially for important accounts. If possible, set up two-factor authentication. Change the password even if it has not been done for a long time. Install all necessary software updates on your computer and smartphone.

Devices need to be scanned with antivirus software. Remove any hacked pirated programs you have installed before – these may contain vulnerabilities and pose a danger to your computer. You also need to uninstall all Russian programs. Make backup copies of important documents and files so you can restore them in case of loss.

The service advises you not to download files from unknown, dubious sources. Pay special attention to the email, because hackers often attack by sending dangerous emails with “hot” topics.

“Be aware that links to phishing sites may be disguised as holiday greetings. Do not follow links from strangers or even friends,” the State Intelligence Service said.

The service noted that criminals can impersonate representatives of state bodies. Therefore, you need to pay attention to the address of the sender, the content of the letter. Do not click on suspicious links or open attachments.

As reported by Ukrinform, 203 hostile cyberattacks were registered in Ukraine in July, and the number of attacks against state administration bodies increased.
