Vulcano high-precision ammunition can be used for accurate shooting from a distance of 70 to 100 km. The ammunition was developed by the Italian company OTO Melara. The Vulcano is a sub-caliber projectile designed to fire from 155mm guns and has a 127mm own diameter.

The mass of the projectile in flight is 18 kg. The length of the projectile in flight is 1 m and with a sleeve compatible with conventional ammunition of the same caliber is 1554 mm. The initial velocity of the bullet is more than 1130 m/s, which allows firing at a range of 70 to 100 km. The flight time of the projectile to the maximum range takes about 160 seconds.

There are two versions of Vulcano ammunition – the simplified BER version and the advanced GLR. They differ in firing range and accuracy. The more advanced version has a semi-active laser aiming system and a programmable fuze. The aiming system allows you to destroy even moving targets. When the target is illuminated by a laser beam from a UAV, the accuracy of the Vulcano GLR projectile is less than one meter.

A howitzer with a barrel length of 52 caliber can fire such ammunition at a range of 70-100 km. They were tested on the German PzH 2000 and the French Caesar. But it is believed that this ammunition can be fired from any 155 mm caliber gun. If the barrel length is shorter, for example, on the M777 howitzer, the firing range will also decrease to 55 km.

The simplified version of the projectile has a firing range of up to 50 km when fired from a gun with a barrel of 52 caliber and from a 36 with a barrel length of 36 caliber. It does not have a laser guidance system.
