According to Bitinfocharts, as of August 24, the total number of digital currencies stored in addresses that have been inactive for more than 5 years reached a record 17.87 million bitcoins. This is over 90% of all coins in circulation today (19.12 million digital coins).
The top-ranked inactive address has 79,957 bitcoins worth about $1.6 billion, based on the cryptocurrency’s $21,200 market cap. In total, the five main inactive addresses contain 185,096 bitcoins worth $3.9 billion.
