At the end of September, NASA will test its new system to protect the planet from a possible collision with an asteroid.
As Ukrinform reports, Xinhua writes about it, citing NASA’s statement.
“NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirect Test – the first test of technology protecting Earth from a potential asteroid or comet threat – will make contact with the intended asteroid on September 26,” the report said.
It was stated that the contact, which does not pose any threat to the world, is scheduled for 19:14 Florida time.
“This test will show that the spacecraft can reach space autonomously. asteroid and deliberately collides with it to change its trajectory so that it can be detected by ground-based telescopes,” explains Xinhua.
This test should provide valuable data to better prepare us for an asteroid that threatens to collide with Earth.
