One of the main antiviruses on the market, Kaspersky Lab introduced this Wednesday (24) a survey that shows that 85% of Android users are looking for ways to increase the privacy of their devices.. This shows a significant trend towards users being unsure of what the operating system is currently offering.
According to Kaspersky Lab, the data was provided voluntarily by users who logged into Privacy Checker. The numbers were cataloged over a period of six months, from January to July of this year, according to the company.
The analysis took into account the most frequent searches performed on the system, and was able to quickly bring Android to the top of the list. The rest of the percentage was filled with Windows, iOS and Mac. The top three operating systems are of concern at 6%, 6% and 3% respectively.
“Many searches are related to each service’s “terms of use” and its updates, which are reviewed periodically.”, stressed Fabio Assolini. He is Director of the Latin America Global Research and Analysis Group at Kaspersky Lab. These terms have the function of explaining to the client how the program works, and they are being revised according to new norms and usage.
Despite all suspicions about the imminent danger that Android users face, Assolini reiterates that there are ways to take less risk with apps. One of the first things to pay attention to is checking access to cell phone data. This is because you need to read the terms and conditions and know what types of information this app wants to have access to.
“Because we must agree to these terms, it is important to evaluate this information to understand if there is any risk to our privacy or security,” explains Assolini.
It therefore reiterates the need for users to accept these terms or not. This is due to the fact that not all permissions that are granted to programs are actually necessary for them to work correctly on devices.
That is, if the application works completely offline, it does not need access to data from the Internet connection. Therefore, it is important to emphasize the involvement of users of the Android operating system in order to evaluate why these applications need certain releases when agreeing to the terms of use.
Kaspersky Lab said that there is a way to check if these provided options make sense to the user. To do this, simply open the “Manage Permissions” option to learn more about native Android features. For third-party apps, go to the “apps” option and take note of the permissions already granted..
