Instagram has announced a new update to its Sensitive Content Control tool, which will be configured with the “Less” filter by default on user accounts under 16.

The company rolled out this functionality in July of last year, and it allows the user to decide how much sensitive content is displayed in the “Discover” section and which one is available in the Account Settings section.

Months later, Sensitive Content Control was expanded to all sections where display options such as “Search” and “Reels” where the platform makes recommendations to users will gradually be applied.

These are “More”, “Standard” and “Less”. The first lets you see more content and accounts that are considered sensitive; this is an option not available to minors under 18.

Rather, “Standard” is the configuration that the platform creates by default, which prevents users from accessing profiles that offer violent or sexually explicit posts, among others.

Finally, the “Less” option restricts the videos and images that can appear on the social network to keep active users more secure.

Based on this sense of protection, the platform announced that this option will be configured by default in the Control of sensitive content of accounts of people who are registered and younger than 16 from now on.

This will limit exposure to inappropriate posts in both “Discover” and “Reels”, as well as in news, “hashtag” pages, suggested content or suggested accounts.

Likewise, the company has launched a campaign to raise awareness for under-18s to enable the “Less” option, although they also have a “Standard” tab.

With this, they announced that they are encouraging all teens using Instagram to check the security and privacy settings section to know who can share their content, communicate with them or time spent on the app.
