YouTuber Vadim Yuryev posted a video this week showing that a MacBook Air can run Windows 11 faster than a Dell XPS 13 Plus device. Even without launching a native system, Apple technology managed to beat its rival in tests conducted for the Max Tech channel.
However, the process of installing an operating system on an Apple device was not the easiest. This is because he needed to use software that runs the ARM version of Windows 11 through a virtual machine. This is all because of the Apple Silicon chips, which are not compatible with the x86 system used by Windows.
Placed side by side, the MacBook was equipped with an M2 processor with a 10-core GPU and 16GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the Dell laptop had an Intel Core i5-1240P processor and the same 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, making the two devices very similar in terms of configuration.
Showing the results, he discovered something unexpected for most of the public. To make things more difficult, he used Geekbench 5 and Speedometer 2.0. Both are responsible for measuring the response time of devices in web applications.
Vadim Yuryev did the first test with a Dell XPS 13 plugged in and unplugged. In the second test, given that many people don’t use networked equipment, it achieved 1182 single-core scores and 5476 multi-core scores. This number is significantly lower than the MacBook Air, which scored 1681 points and 7260 points.
However, the Dell device showed a significant improvement in the results when connected to the network, but still lost to the Apple device in one of the categories. That’s because it showed 1548 on single-core and 8103 on multi-core, making the second number higher than Apple’s.
In the second test, the MacBook Air took the lead over the Dell laptop. According to the YouTuber, the Apple device managed 228 downloads per minute, while the Dell device could not exceed 209. The number achieved by the Mac was even higher when adding its own system. With macOS, it reached 328 and showed the full potential of the hardware.
In the United States, the Dell XPS 13 Plus can be purchased for $1,850, about R$9,400 at the current price. Meanwhile, the MacBook Air sells for $1,600 and in Brazil it sells for R$17,200. The Apple device is more expensive than the Dell device, which sells to Brazilians for R$12,000.
