The Lexar NM800 is another high-performance SSD that follows in the footsteps of Samsung’s recently announced 990 PRO SSD and likes it. focuses on all kinds of uses, both gamers on PC or consoles and professionals on work machines. In terms of equipment, it works equally well for desktops or laptop upgrades.
As we said with the Samsung unit, the new Lexar does not mean a level jump substantial over the current offering, something the industry and consumers have been waiting for. You already know it should come with SSDs connected to the PCI Gen5 interface, which should be available this year once new processor platforms from AMD (ZEN 4) and Intel (Rocket Lake) are announced.
Of course, not all users will switch to these platforms, and Gen4 SSDs have a long way to go as they are also backwards compatible with Gen3. The Lexar NM800 is an M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 x4 interface drive with NVMe 1.4 support that uses TLC 3D memory and a controller from an unspecified manufacturer. This makes it possible to achieve data transfer speeds of up to 7500 / 6500 MB/s in sequential read/write mode.
They are distributed with a five-year warranty and a failure tolerance of one and a half million hours between failures (MTBF). Lexar offers an optional heatsink to help keep drives under control, which get pretty hot due to their small size and high performance.
