Google said in a post on the company’s support page that Android 14 will begin testing on mobile devices in April 2023.. The information comes shortly after Pixel devices started receiving Android 13, while others are still gearing up to receive the new operating system.

Even with the date provided by the company, it is expected that the first version of the updated system will be available before then. This is because there is a chance that the developer version will already be online and available for testing in February.

The date set by Google is not big news to those who follow the company’s projects closely. As a rule, April is chosen to start testing the operating system.. This case happened, for example, with Android 12 when it started testing in April 2021.

Through the official blog, the company took the opportunity to reveal to users the small changes made in the process of entering the beta program to test the operating system. Among them is the requirement of a stable ROM before moving to Android 14.

Google did not provide details about the new operating system. Nonetheless, we already know that it will be called Upside Down Cake and will go on sale next year.. This will be the continuation of a series of major updates released by the company every year.

Change in the beta update system

“Registered devices will receive ongoing beta updates, including quarterly platform releases (QPRs) followed by the next unreleased platform, until you choose to unenroll the device from the program. Android 13 QPR beta updates will continue until March 2023, after which Android 14 betas will be released.“Google said.

However, for the Android 13 beta quarterly update system, Google decided to make a small change. Starting from September it won’t work the same as before removing the public list of compatible devices.
