8BitDoa brand of video game controllers of Chinese origin, is preparing Ultimate Controllera new model with which he intends to maintain the upward quality line of recent years.

8BitDo was initially focused on retrogaming (primarily the ghosts of Sega and Nintendo), but with the SN30 Pro and Pro 2, it expanded its audience and entered more hardcore. Both models have the Nintendo Switch as their main platform, but are officially compatible with Android, macOS, Windows and Raspberry Pi. One of the main features of these controllers is their support for Bluetooth connectivity, but the next Ultimate Controller will introduce changes in this regard.

For starters, it will three variants of the 8BitDo Ultimate Controller: Bluetooth, which will cost $69.99, another with a branded 2.4 GHz wireless adapter for $49.99, and only a wired adapter, which will cost $34.99.

The wired and Bluetooth-enabled variants will be compatible with Nintendo Switch, Windows, Android and iOS, while the one that only supports 8BitDo’s own adapter will not be compatible with the Big N console.. Unless the manufacturer introduces too many changes to the support level, configuring 8BitDo Ultimate Controller for Windows should allow it to work on Linux.

But perhaps the most surprising thing about the 8BitDo Ultimate Controller is its design change from the SN30 Pro and Pro 2. The 8BitDo Pro 2 can practically be considered a hybrid of the Dual Shock 4 with the controls of the legendary Super Nintendo, as you can see in the gallery below.

The 8BitDo Ultimate Controller, meanwhile, is more similar to the Switch Pro controller and the Xbox controller., not only for its more robust appearance, but also for the fact that the left analog stick is located on the upper left and the crosshead on the lower left, breaking the symmetry of the previous models. This may disappoint some fans of the brand a bit, but it also aligns better with the standard that has been established outside of PlayStation.

The 8BitDo Ultimate Controller is expected to include a number of features insurance premium which are usually present in remote controls that are much more expensive. Also, wireless-enabled variants will come with the brand’s own adapter and charging basethough hopefully USB charging will still be supported for players who want to continue playing after finding that their battery is dead.

Following the 8BitDo tradition, users will have an app for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android that will allow them to update firmware, reconfigure the controller, and create macros, as well as create different profiles for different platforms. or games.

Available in white, black and pink, the 8BitDo Ultimate Controller will on sale from October 28 via Amazon at least in the United States. We’ll see if at the moment of truth it represents a qualitative leap compared to the Pro 2, which ranked as one of the best options when value for money is taken into account.
