OBS Studio Releases Software Update 28.0 “on NVIDIA Studio” With NVIDIA Release Features

WATCHOLLIE shares his secrets about live streaming powered by NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU.

This week NVIDIA Studio celebrates the 10th anniversary of Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) Studio and software release 28.0. Also, popular broadcaster WATCHHOLLIE shares how they used OBS and GeForce RTX 3080 GPU in a single PC configuration to improve the quality of their live streams.

The OBS version, which will be available later today, offers broadcasters HEVC or H.

NVIDIA is also partnering with Google to live stream HEVC and HDR content to YouTube using the dedicated hardware NVIDIA Encoder (NVENC) on GeForce RTX GPUs, which manages video encoding without taking resources from the game.

OBS Happiness

OBS 28.0 has been released with a host of updates and improvements, including two NVIDIA Broadcast features exclusive to GeForce RTX transmitters.

The AI-powered virtual background allows broadcasters to remove or change their background without the need for a physical green screen. Removing room echoes allows broadcasters to eliminate unwanted echoes during live broadcasts. These features are useful when using a desktop microphone or when broadcasting in a room with a bit of reverberation. Both effects – as well as noise removal – are available as filters within OBS, giving users more flexibility to apply them per source.

HEVC support in OBS 28.0 increases video compression by 15%. Built specifically for hardware-based HEVC encoders, the app allows users to record content and stream it to supported platforms such as YouTube in better quality.

The update also enables HDR recording and streaming, delivering a wider range of bright and dark colors on one screen, delivering stunning vibrancy and visual quality improvement.

Previously, users had to disable HDR, as 10- or 12-bit HDR content would appear faded if recorded as 8-bit. With this update, users can keep HDR enabled and decide whether to shoot or stream in SDR or full HDR.

More users will benefit from this OBS update as HDR displays become more popular and Windows 11 has a new Auto HDR tool that allows many games to be displayed in a virtual HDR mode.

YouTube Live is one of the first platforms to support HEVC and HDR streaming. Streamers on the platform can deliver higher quality streams to their viewers with just a few clicks.

Installation is also quick and easy. Setup is available through this NVENC OBS guide in the “Recording and Streaming with HEVC and HDR” section.

WATCHHOLLIE had to learn new ways to create content when he started his channel. Now he trains the next generation of broadcasters on their journey and explains how NVIDIA broadcast technology improves streaming. WATCHHOLLIE trained as a video editor and produced content on a YouTube channel before broadcasting Twitch. During the pandemic, Hollie has launched live streams to keep in touch with her friends.

“I was trapped in an 800-square-foot apartment during the pandemic, so I started doing live broadcasts daily so I could socialize. In the early stages of my broadcasts, I opened my publications with the thought that I hoped someone would come, and gradually I managed to reach a certain audience.” In her early live streams, Hollie used OBS on a Mac with an external capture card, providing an easy method to stream console gameplay.

WATCHHOLLIE continued to work as a freelancer and continued to broadcast live. Meanwhile, he asked his friends to provide substantive ideas and advice to improve the quality of the broadcast.

To support her live streams, Hollie initially built her first PC with a GeForce RTX 2070 GPU and then upgraded the graphics card to a GeForce RTX 3080 GPU. GeForce GPUs include NVENC as a separate encoder that delivers uninterrupted gaming and live streaming with maximum performance even in a single PC configuration like WATCHOLIE’s. NVENC’s advanced GPU encoding also ensures higher video quality for recorded videos.

Shortly after, Hollie’s channel began monetizing her live broadcasts and even turned down a full-time job offer. WATCHHOLLIE has been producing content for his channel full-time since reaching Twitch Partner status. “I’m very happy and feel like I’m making a difference with the posts I make,” he says.

WATCHOLLIE is now focused on helping new publishers. He founded WatchUs, a diversity-focused team that teaches these creators how to grow their businesses, develop brand partnerships, and improve their livestream setups. “WatchUs allows me to help people and guide new issuers in dealing with issues I encountered in the beginning,” he says.

Team from more than 200 registrationsMore than 20 publishers have been selected to participate in e. They received training on every aspect of live broadcasting from coaches from a wide variety of fields. WatchU plans to reopen applications soon.

When asked what it takes to become a successful broadcaster, Hollie didn’t hesitate to answer, “Stick to your schedule and play what you love. Don’t wait for people to talk to you to have fun – be fun first, then people will want to talk to you.”
