IFA 2022. Chromebooks have long since abandoned their original focus on the education segment, and for this reason, the vast majority of these Chrome OS laptops have been launched as low-cost devices, but with low-end hardware and small dimensions. In recent years, computers have come to market that rivaled their Windows or macOS counterparts, and now another is being announced.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 5i gets bigger by mounting a screen 16 inches. A modern form factor that seeks the display capacity of 17 laptops and a smaller actual size of 15″. The Chinese company offers a choice of two panels, up to 2.5K resolution native, 16:10 aspect ratio, 350 nits brightness and refresh rate 120 Hz.
An example of a Chromebook upgrade in hardware is the Core i3-1215U processor, Intel’s latest line for laptops. It is complemented by 8 GB of LPDDR4X memory and a PCIe SSD with a capacity of up to 512 GB.
In terms of connectivity, it is compatible with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5 and has two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C ports and two additional USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports. It features an FHD webcam, stereo speakers with Waves technology with MaxxAudio, a Kensington lock and microSD cards.

Measuring 356.5mm x 253mm x 19.95mm and weighing 1.86kg, the screen can be rotated 180 degrees to facilitate content sharing, and its battery should be able to provide up to 12 hours of autonomy. With the latest version of Chrome OS pre-installed and benefits that Google provides on all Chromebooks, such as a free year of cloud storage service, the IdeaPad 5i will be available in September 2022 for a price from €549.
